National Law Schools
Admission to the country's top national law schools is through entrance tests that require as much planning and preparation as those for any top professional course.
According to estimate, over 7000 students wrote the entrance examination last year for admission to 300 seats in top five national law schools in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkotta, Bhopal and Jodhpur
Beyond any doubt, only the best get admitted to these prestigious institutions. Each national law school holds a separate entrance examination. Precise planning and hard work are required for a candidate to get through the entrance test
The candidate's proficiency in English, analytical reasoning, general knowledge and mathematics would be tested. The entrance is generally of two- hour duration. The test pattern is structured in such a way as to pick those who are really interested in law.
Vocabulary and reading comprehension are some of the areas covered in the test of English language. The analytical reasoning section tests students on identifying weak and strong arguments, syllogisms, relationships and sequencing. Students have to improve their reasoning power
Aptitude in logical deduction would be assessed.
The examination will test their ability in applying a principle to a given set of facts. Besides testing general awareness, the section on general knowledge will also carry questions on basic laws and legal developments. Basic commercial mathematics will be an area covered in the mathematics paper.
Specialised training in select areas of study is very important while preparing for test. Candidates should also learn time management techniques.
The students can practice for the test by going through previous question papers. Questions papers of tests of the last 10 years are available.
A detailed reading of the question papers would give them an understanding about the nature of questions asked regularly.
Candidates can seek expert advise from students who have already joined various law programmes. Students can also improve their interpersonal skills while preparing for entrance tests.
According to experts it is always better to start preparations at least one year before the date of the entrance tests.
